The Blue Shoe Project was founded by Jeffry Dyson, and son Michael Dyson in 2004, with a little help from daughter/sister Sara Dyson and Anne Dyson, a.k.a., “Blue Shoe Mom”, who was there from the beginning with camera in hand.
The organization’s first education program included a historic concert at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas, Texas, Oct 16, 2004 brought 83 students together to experience the music, the lessons and the experiences of the last remaining Mississippi Delta Bluesmen. The oldest, Henry James Townsend of St. Louis was about to celebrate his 95th birthday, Robert Lockwood Jr. was 89 and understudy of the legendary Robert Johnson, Willie “Pinetop” Perkins 91, who says that he was “born in the honey” and the youngest who is now 95 years “young”, David “Honeyboy” Edwards. These living legends had not received nearly the recognition due for their contributions to American music.
The historic concert was recorded and released in 2007 as a CD “Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen - Live in Dallas” under The Blue Shoe Project label. In 2008, the CD won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album at the 50th Anniversary 2008 Grammy Awards. Thanks always will go to Scott Shuman for his brilliant sound engineering he employed in producing “Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen - Live in Dallas” and for helping us get the project considered for a Grammy. Scott was also recognized by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Science with a Grammy Award for his work on “Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen - Live in Dallas”.
The Blue Shoe Project is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization that teaches young people (kids) about the rich heritage, life lessons and impact on cultural diversity of “The Blues”. To date The Blue Shoe Project has presented programs to over 80,000 students in America. To purchase this historic and award winning CD please visit www.CDBaby.com or www.Amazon.com.
